Write a Letter to Myself & Open it in 10 Years
This idea was one of my first to be on my bucket list. For my letter, I made sure I wrote it as if it was a reflection for myself in 10 years. I wanted my letter to be meaningful to my future self rather than just writing about gossip that is going at the moment. BUT... I am not saying you can't do that! You can make a fancy letter if you want or you can simply write your letter on lined paper. I wrote mine on lined paper! Side note: you can have many drafts... so you can rewrite your letter until you feel like it is perfect!
-If you are stuck on what to write about and/or do, here are some tips!
- the obvious starting point: "Dear future___"
- when you want to talk about your future self, you want to use "we" and "our"
- try to not make your letter a list of bunch of questions-- I say this because you do not want your letter to be boring to your future self
- but once again, if you prefer just questions, there is nothing wrong with that! Have complicated questions, funny questions, out of this world questions!
- you want to write about your struggles, accomplishments, etc. from the time you are writing your letter
- I say struggles because if you ever do over come them within the next 10 years, you will be able to reflect upon them once you do end up reading your letter
- if you have any other bucket list ideas already in mind or in your journal(ATM) you can write about those things that way your future self can see your accomplisments
- you can write about your current friends or boyfriend/girlfriend!
- if you have plans for the future, write about them!
- at the end you can sign your letter if you'd like
- once you have finished your letter:
- get an envelope (decorate it if you'd like)
- write something on it that has to do with yourself in 10 years
- mine says " DO NOT OPEN UNTIL 06/01/27"
- place your envelope somewhere safe where you know you'll find it in 10 years
- I taped mine to the inside of the back cover of my notebook ,,,,
Here are some small excerpts from my letter:
- "How has life been? So right now, our career we want to pursue is plastic surgery... are we still on that path or did we change our mind?"
- To get certified as a plastic surgeon, it takes about 15 years; so that is why I asked if we are still on that path.
- " we currently have no boyfriend, so please tell me that we are at least talking to someone in 2027!! Did we ever move in with ***?! Tell me we did!!"
- *** girl best friend's name
- "Hopefully we are not loners! stay safe... and we better not be a mom by the time you read this!!!"
